We're regularly asked to explain why qualifications from colleges and universities are less in demand than the more commercially accredited qualifications? With fees and living expenses for university students becoming a tall order for many, along with the IT sector's growing opinion that corporate based study often has more relevance in the commercial field, there's been a dramatic increase in Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA certified training programmes that educate students for much less time and money. University courses, as a example, become confusing because of a great deal of loosely associated study - with a syllabus that's far too wide. This prevents a student from getting enough core and in-depth understanding on a specific area.

Put yourself in the employer's position - and you needed to take on someone with a very particular skill-set. What is easier: Wade your way through reams of different degrees and college qualifications from graduate applicants, trying to establish what they know and which workplace skills have been attained, or select a specialised number of commercial certifications that perfectly fit your needs, and then choose your interviewees based around that. Your interviews are then about personal suitability - rather than establishing whether they can do a specific task.

The standard IT employee in the United Kingdom has been shown to get a lot more money than employees on a par outside of IT. Average wages are some of the best to be had nationwide. The good news is there is no end in sight for IT jobs development in Great Britain as a whole. The market continues to develop enormously, and with the skills shortage of over 26 percent that we're experiencing, it's not likely that there'll be any kind of easing off for years to come.

So, if 'databases' abound & such a major part of modern life, what kind of job roles can be found? If we consider the work of IT experts, there are two main Database fields - The 1st involves the formation & building of the software that Databases are powered by, & the 2nd consists of the management work needed to apply the data stored on them. The expression DBA, or 'Database Administrator', is a common acronym used throughout the IT industry. Medium to large corporations must employ DBAs to administer the day by day operations of the Databases they are running. They will control the operations which impact the data, such as security and backing-up, & interact with management to deliver reporting - so the business can employ that 'intelligence' to perform better. They must have a professional knowledge of SQL - the most highly used Database language. Interrogating databases to extract facts is standardised with 'SQL' (Structured Query Language).

'In-Centre workshop days' are often sold as a major benefit by many training academies. After a good chat with most IT students who have partaken in a couple, you'll discover that they're really a mistake as they hadn't properly considered the following:

- A lot of travelling to and from the workshop centre - often very long trips.

- Requesting time off work - a lot of training providers will only provide Mon-Fri class availability and group several days in a chunk. This is generally difficult for those of us who work for a living, and this is made worse when you add the travel time on.

- And don't overlook lost vacation time. Often, we get twenty days annual leave. If over 50 percent is used in classes, then we haven't got much left for ourselves.

- In a situation where running costs are very high, most schools make the classes quite large - which isn't ideal (giving less time per student).

- Often attendees want to progress quickly, others want a more steady pace and want to set their own pace that fits. This brings difficulty and tension in most workshops.

- Quite a lot of trainees tell us of the considerable cost of travelling back and forth to the training centre and paying for food and accommodation gets very high.

- All of us want some privacy. We shouldn't risk throwing away any advancement that could awarded to us while we're training.

- Who amongst us hasn't shied away from raising a hand in the air, because we wanted to look smarter?

- For those who have work away from home, you now have to deal with the fact that classes are now very hard to attend - and yet, the fees were paid along with everything else at the start.

Why don't you watch on-screen and study with tutors one-to-one through videoed classes, taking them at a time that's convenient for you and you alone. Study from home on your PC or out in the garden on your laptop. Any questions that pop up, just logon to the 24x7 support facility (that we hope you'll insist on with any technical courses.) You can repeat the modules as often as you need to prep for an exam. You also don't need to make notes as the teaching is yours forever. While this doesn't suddenly remove each and every issue, it undoubtedly vastly reduces stress and simplifies things. You also have reduced costs, hassle and travel.
