CompTIA A+ consists of 2 training sections; you're seen as competent at A+ once you've passed your exams for both of these areas. When you embark on the A+ training course you will learn how to build, fix, repair and work in antistatic conditions. Diagnostic techniques and fault finding are also on the syllabus, as is remote access. If you feel it appropriate to add Network+ to your A+ course, you'll also learn how to look after networks, giving you the facility to expect a better remuneration package.

A knowledgeable and professional consultant (in direct contrast to a salesman) will talk through your current level of ability and experience. There is no other way of understanding your starting level of study. Sometimes, the level to start at for a student with experience will be vastly dissimilar to the student with no experience. If this is going to be your opening crack at an IT exam then it may be wise to practice with some basic user skills first.

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, using textbooks and whiteboards, is usually pretty hard going. If this describes you, check out study materials that are on-screen and interactive. Our ability to remember is increased when multiple senses are involved - this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for as long as we can remember.

Interactive audio-visual materials featuring instructor demo's and practice lab's will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And they're a lot more fun to do. Each company you're contemplating should willingly take you through some examples of the type of training materials they provide. Make sure you encounter videos of instructor-led classes and many interactive sections.

You'll find that many companies will only provide online training only; and while this is acceptable much of the time, consider how you'll deal with it if you lose your internet access or you get a slow connection speed. It's much safer to rely on CD and DVD ROM materials that will not have these problems.
